AFC Leopards risk heavy reprisal from the Kenyan Premier League,KPL following their failure to honour a Top 8 clash against arch rivals Gor Mahia.

KPL CEO Jack Oguda said Leopards will be fined a minimum of Ksh. 500,000 and a further Ksh. 3.5 million incurred on the match arrangements.

“According to the league policy, the club will be fined a minimum of Sh 0.5 million and all other costs incurred by both KPL and broadcast rights holders SuperSport. The total sum could run to at least Sh 4 million”, Oguda said.

Leopards failed to appear at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani, the venue of the Sunday evening match, where Gor and the match officials lined up ready for the 3pm kick off tie.

But for the thousands of fans - mainly from Gor - it was an anticlimax as their would be opponents made a no show.

Consequently, centre referee, Sylvester Kirwa, awarded Gor a 2-0 walkover. After the match aborted, Gor opted for a friendly tie against the National Talent Youth Academy (NYTA), which they won 1-0 courtesy of a Nicholas Auma goal.

A disappointed Gor coach, Zdravko Logarusic, said his team would now focus on their next match.

“It is unfortunate that our opponents failed to show up for the match. We were prepared to play Leopards, but it is now behind us. We will now focus on our next match”, Logarusic said.

Gor will now face Tusker in the tournament’s second semi final on Thursday night at the Nyayo National Stadium.

The first semi final, between title holders Ulinzi Stars and Sony Sugar will be played on Wednesday at the same venue.

The semis will be played on a home and away format with the aggregate goal winners advancing to the finals.
