Hosta Mwamba Face Impala In Kabeberi Quarters

Sep 24, 2011

Hosts Mwamba RFC play Impala from 10.20 am on Sunday 25,at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa ground in the main cup quarter finals of the George Mwangi Kabeberi Memorial Sevens which is the fourth tournament of the Kenya Rugby Union National Sevens Circuit.

All the top eight teams in the quarter finals are potential winners. Mwamba won the opening two tournaments in Kisumu and Nakuru while Kenya Commercial Bank won Christie Sevens, their first big trophy in four years.

Nondescripts RUFC have broken to the top eight and will play Kenya Harlequin FC while Strathmore University have a bruising battle with Nakuru RFC.

One of the most interesting pairings is between Kenya Commercial Bank and Homeboyz.A good number of KCB players moved to Homeboyz coached by Paul Murunga, a former KCB player and coach. Up to now, KCB has emerged winners but this should be a close one.

For the first time, Kisumu failed to qualify for the quarter finals of the main cup competition. They will face Kenya Polytechnic in the Bowl semis.

Also fighting for scraps on the second day are Mean Machine who have been impressive since the KRU circuit kicked off in Kisumu nearly one month ago.

There was disappointment in the women’s draw when only Mwamba was able to raise a side.

They will play Uganda Club champions Black Panthers on Sunday. Day two order of play.
