MFAE's Wangare wins 10000m at AK meet in Nakuru

MFAE'S Maryanne Wangare reigned supreme at the third National Bank of Kenya/ Athletics Kenya track and field meeting at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru,Friday comfortably winning the women’s 10000m in 34:39.00.

Just into the second lap, Wangare shot ahead and hang on to the lead comfortably winning the race ahead of Priscilla Lorchima from Kuresoi (34:53.0) and Ngong's Anne Waberia (35:17.00) to second and third place respectively.

Wangare who finished second over the same distance in last weekend’s meeting intends to run the 5,000m before taking a break to focus on the national trials. ' I intend to take a one month break before returning to active running,' she said.

Jane Njeri (Ngong) clocked 35.46.00 to finish fourth with Joyce Kirui completing the top five places in 35:55.08.

In the men's 400m-Hurdles, Wanguo Mutunga of Moi Air Base clocked 52.8 seconds to win the race ahead of John Korir (Police) timed at 52.9sec and third placed Boniface Mucheru (Nanyuki) who crossed the line in 53.4 sec.

Former world junior 1,500m champion Viola Kibiwot (Global) won heat one of her specialty as she looks to build for the Olympic trials.

“ I will run in selected races as part of my build-up for Olympic Games. I believe this time round, I will not only make the national team to London Olympics but I will also make an impact if my shape is anything to go by,” she added.
