Nakuru Club have a chance to regain the lead in the Kenya Basketball Federation men’s division one league when they play Umoja, saturday from 12 pm at Menengai High School.
They have played 10 matches and have 19 points, one less than KCA University who have 20 points from 11 matches.
Umoja are placed fifth in the league with 15 points. Other top teams in the league are Kenya Airports Authority (18 points), Nairobi Aviation College (17) and Parklands Baptist (15).
The top match of the day will be a premier league encounter between Cooperative Bank and Lakeside from 4 pm. The bankers are placed fifth in the league with 14 points.
Action moves to Nyayo Stadium gymnasium on Sunday with the opening match between Mennonites and NYTA – Shimba Hills from 9 am. Unites States International University – Africa lead the women’s league after completing the first leg unbeaten.
Last weekend, they beat Western Delight 64-41 with Hilda Indiasi scoring 23 points. Their position at the top of the table is under no threat because the chasing pack of Eagle Wings (16 points), Cooperative Bank (15), Storms (15), Western Delight (14), Kenya Ports Authority (13) and Strathmore University (10) have no chance of collecting the four points needed to reach 20.
The only top women’s match on Sunday is between Cooperative Bank and Safe Spaces from 10.30am. Kenya Commercial Bank Lions seek to consolidate teir unbeaten run at the top of the men’s premier league when they host Lakeside from 2 pm. Their main danger man is Ancette Wafula.
The bankers have played 10 matches and garnered 20 points. USIU-A who have also played 10 matches have 18 points while Strathmore University and Kenya Ports Authority are third with 15 points each. Cooperative bank are fifth on 14 points and University of Nairobi Terror complete the top six on 13 points.
The students have a chance to move up the table if they overcome Thunder in the last match of the day from 4 pm. Watch out for their depandeble players Martin Gitonga and Brayan Namulata.
