Kenya Police, the defending Kenya Hockey Union champions host Mvita XI in one of the seven league matches at the City Park stadium this weekend.
Only one of the matches will be played outside Nairobi. Fresh from their 3-0 win over Strathmore University last weekend, the policemen will hope to consolidate their lead at the top of the 12-team league by collecting maximum points from the Coast Region-based team.
Tom Ondeng’ the team manager of Kenya Police predicts this will be a tough match if Mvita XI’s past performance in nairobi could be used as a yardstick.
“We beat Strathmore, one of the best teams in the league but that doesn't mean that we will underrate Mvita. They are a good side with young players but, we will give it our best. To us what matters is all the three points and that’s what we are going for,’ said Ondeng.
Mvita XI are placed third from the bottom in the 12-team table which is topped by Kisumu Simba who have 15 points, same as Police who have lower goal average.
Mvita XI have another tough outing against Strathmore University on Sunday. Parklands Sports Club who are currently third in the national men’s league will play University of Nairobi in the other only match set for this Saturday.
A win for Parklands will see them move one place, above Multimedia University who will not be in action this weekend.
On Sunday Blue Eaglets host Multimedia University while Telkom Orange plat Vikings. Unbeaten Telkom Orange are set widen the gap against second-placed Strathmore University. They have 24 points from eight matches while Strathmore University have collected 23 points from 10 matches.
Sliders are third having played nine matches and are followed by Kenyatta University who have 12 points. In the only match outside Nairobi, Wazalendo Youth will travel to Nakuru.
Nakuru are fifth on the table. University of Nairobi will play their second match of the weekend against Nairobi Gymkhana.
