Kenya Harlequin FC dethroned Mwamba as the Airtel Dala Sevens Champions.
They beat the Black Shirts 28-17 in a sea-saw final at the Kisumu Polytechnic ground on Sunday.
The final was a closely contested affair. Collins Injera scored for Mwamba and Lavin Asego converted for an early 7-0 lead.
This lead was cancelled by Nato Simiyu who went over the chalk line and Eden Agero converted to level the scores 7-7.
William Ambaka broke the deadlock scoring a try which Agero converted as Quins led 14-7. Just before the break, Injera went over for his second as Quins led 14-12 at halftime.
On resumption, Michael Agevi regained the lead for Mwamba with an unconverted try, 17-14. The tide changed when Felix Ayange scored for Quins and Agero slotted the conversion to re-take Quins’ lead 21-17.
It was a lead they did not surrender because Simiyu, who crossed over from Impala was next over with a try for Quins which Agero converted for a comfortable 28-17 lead which won the Ngong Road sides their second trophy.
Main Cup semi-finals
In the main cup semi-finals, Kevin Keegan opened the account for Quins before William Ambaka barged over and Nato Simiyu converted for a 12-0 lead. Patrice Agunda was next over as Quins extended their lead 17-0 at halftime.
On resumption, Eden Agero touched down and Simiyu converted for a 24-0 lead. Two more tries, one of which was converted saw Quins comfortably win 36-0 to reach the final.
In the other semi-final, a converted Collins Kimani try saw KCB lead Mwamba 7-0.Kimani completed his brace and Fabian Olando added the extra two points for the bankers to lead 14-0.
Dennis Ombachi scored Mwamba’s first try and Lavin Asego converted to cut KCB’s lead to only seven points at halftime. Michael Agevi scored a try and Asego kept a cool nerve to convert for a 14-14 tie at regulation time as the teams went into sudden death play. Ombachi scored the decisive try to land Mwamba for a repeat final against Quins.
Impala clinch plate,Strathmore Bowl
The Plate final was won by Impala who beat Homeboyz 10-7. Homeboyz narrowly beat the Menengai Oil-sponsored Nakuru 7-5 to reach the plate final and set a date with Impala who edged out Western Bulls 19-12 in the other semi-final.
In the final, Homeboyz led 7-5 at halftime. On resumption, Vincent Mose, the Impala utility back and captain scored a try to regain Impala’s lead 10-7. This was enough for Impala to clinch the Plate.
Strathmore University won the bowl by beating KCA University 43-0. The Shield winners were Daystar University who beat Thika RFC 17-5 and Bungoma beat Kakamega 22-0 to take the Spear.
