The security situation in the country has forced the postponement of the Africa cup of Nations Hockey tournament. Kenya Hockey Union, KHU has opted to push the tournament further forward to October 24 to November 2.

The Championship that will double up as the 2014 World Championship to be held in The Hague, Netherlands was initially scheduled for September 26 before it was pushed back by a week to October 1.

This date is subject to approval by Africa Hockey Federation AfHF) and International Hockey Federation, FIH, casting doubts on whether Kenya will eventually get to host the World qualifiers championship.

KHU said that they have forwarded the proposal to Africa Hockey that will then forward it to FIH whose approval is subject to the security situation in the country.

Following the incident, Kenya that have been camping at the Kenya Education Management Institute, broke camp after receiving their allowances Thursday.

Another team that was greatly affected is the Tanzanian side that landed in the country last Tuesday.

Africa Hockey were forced to pay for their ticket back home and whether they will travel back is not yet clear.
