Butali back on top of league

Zack Aura scored a hat trick against KCA University as Butali Warriors climbed back to the top of the Kenya Hockey Union men's Premier league dislodging Kenya Police.

All the goals in this match which was played at the City Park Stadium came in the second half after Felix Mahama scored for the students in the 22nd minute.

Then Aura engineered the comeback scoring the equalizer in the 40th minute. Saidi Okwemba broke the deadlock in the 44th minute before Aura scored in the 58th and 69th minutes.

On Sunday, the champions continued with the same form by beating Nakuru 4-0. In this match, the roles were reversed with Okwemba scoring two goals in the eighth and 59th minutes. Emmanuel Simiyu scored in the 24th minute and Frantk Wanagwe in the 42nd.

Wazalendo edged out Nakuru 4-3 on Saturday. Eric Ochieng and James Mwangi scored two goals each for Wazalendo with Dolcan Mugaisi replying with three for Nakuru.

Strathmore University returned with four points from their Mombasa visit. On Saturday, they beat Mombasa Sports Club 2-1 before being held 1-1 by Mvita XI on Sunday.

Western Jaguars were held 1-1 by visiting Parklands Sports Club while Green Sharks survived a late rally by Kenyatta University to narrowly win 3-2 on Sunday.

Leon Magomere scored two goals in the second and 20th minutes before Lawrence Mahasu pulled one back for the students in the 29th minute. In the second half, Charles Wokila and Shadrack Ruto scored one goal each within one minute.

In the men's national league Tom Olal traded his coaching notebook for a hockey stick and helped Park Road Tigers beat Thika Rovers 2-1. Olal scored in the second and 24th minutes while Bonface Karanja replied for Thika Rovers in the fourth minute.

There were only two matches in the women's national league. On Saturday, the United States International University - Africa overran Daystar University 10-0. They led 3-0 at half time.

Goal scorers for the sudents were Jackline Munene. Emily Buyaki (2). Lorraine Nondi, Rhoda Kuira (2), William Mauwa, Beatrice Mbugua (2) and Beatrice Wekesa. Kenyatta University and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture drew 0-0.
