CECAFA:Rwanda beats Cote D’Ivore as Zanzibar down Sudan

Zanzibar and Rwanda scored victories against their group B opponents in the CECAFA Tusker challenge cup at the National stadium in Dar-es-Salaam.

Zanzibar’s Ali Ahmed hit two goals past Sudan in the 11th and the 66th a win that put them top of Group B ahead of Rwanda who beat tournament favourites Cote D’Ivoire 2-1.

After a fast paced start Cote D’Ivoire took the lead from a sublime back-heel tap by Kones Zumara.

Rwandese composure paid off just before the stroke of half time through Dadi Birori’s header.

Rwanda’s winner came in the 77th minute from Niyo Nzima.

Burundi won their postponed match against Somalia 2-0.

On Monday, Kenya’s Harambee stars begin their campaign for the regional cup against Malawi-the third guest team in the event while defending Champions Uganda Cranes takes on Ethiopia in the other Group C fixture.
