Charged Stima extinguishes Sofapaka's hopes

Sep 25, 2010

Sofapaka have all but ceded the Kenya Premier League title after falling 0-3 to a rampant Western Stima on Saturday in Kakamega's Bukhungu Stadium.

Stima scored their goals through Mark Sirengo (30th min), Ramadhan Balala (84th min) and Fred Nyarambo (89th min).

The victors were however reduced to ten men after Brian Masiolo was ejected in the 39th minute for elbowing Sofapaka captain James Situma.

The loss leaves Sam Ssimbwa's side precariously hanging on to third place on 41 points behind leaders Ulinzi Stars (48 points) and Gor Mahia (42 points).

With Ulinzi hosting KCB in Naivasha and Gor Mahia entertaining bottom team Mahakama at the Nairobi City Stadium Sofapaka on Sunday, Sofapaka could fall far way behind should the two teams win.

Fourth-placed Tusker also have a chance of going at least one place up when they take on Thika United at the Nyayo national Stadium.

AFC Leopards who are currently placed eighth have a date with faltering Mathare United in a mid-week floodlit match on Wednesday at the Nyayo National Stadium.
