Cheruiyot wins Boloclassic race in Italy

Kenya’s Vivian Cheruiyot capped her fine run this season with a close win on New Years Eve at the 36th edition of the Boloclassic in Bolzano, Italy.

Cheruiyot,27, the reigning world and African 5000m champion won the 5km race in 15:52.7 just a fraction of a second ahead of Ethiopian Gedo Utura(15:52.8). Compatriot Prisca Jepleting placed third 15:59.6.

Another Kenyan Edwin Soi failed to capture his fourth crown after finishing third in the men’s 10km race won by Ethiopian Imane Merga.

Merga the Diamond League winner crossed the line first in 28:32.6 with British Mohammed Farah closely behind in 28:32.8.

Soi the defending champion finished in 28:41.6 ahead of his country mate Silas Kipruto(29:15.0)
