Chess wiz kid Sharanya retains Kenya National title

The 2012 Sports Personality of the Year awards most promising runners-up Sharanya Iyengar continues to reign  the local chess scene.

The 11-year old last weekend won the Kenya National Ladies title. Sharanya won 7 and drew 1 game out of total of 8 rounds to secure 7 & ½ points and win the title.

A total of 23 participants took part in the ladies category of this chess event.

Ben Magana was in a class of his own winning all his eight games to retain the men's National title.

Over 120 chess players participated in the three day event which was held between March 30- April 1 at the Kenyatta University, Nairobi.

The two won the male and female Candidate Master at the 2012 Chess Olympiad in Turkey.
