Nov 30, 2010

Former Chelsea captain Marcel Desailly is on a five-man shortlist to become Ghana's next coach.

The 42-year-old, who helped France win the 1998 FIFA World Cup, is joined by Serb Goran Stevanovic, Humberto Coelho of Portugal and former Turkey assistant Can Vanli, while Herbert Addo is the only Ghanaian on the list.

Desailly was born in Ghana, but has no coaching experience despite his success at playing level.

Stevanonic currently heads Serbian side Partizan, while Coelho is without a job having been sacked by Tunisia last November. Vanli, a German of Turkish descent, is coach at Sports Club in Maldivia and Addo is in charge at Ghanaian side Black Stars .

More than a 100 applications were received to fill the role vacated by another Serb, Milovan Rajevac, who rejected a contract extension after leading the team to the quarter-finals of South Africa 2010.

The five candidates are expected to be interviewed in the next two weeks, with an appointment due in mid-December.
