Eagle Wings campaign at the 18th Africa Champions Cup for Women in Ivory Coast got off to a poor start when they lost their opening Group B match 47-64 to Tunisian side Club Sportif SFAX on Friday.

Wings fell off the pace from the start of the game as the first quarter went to the Tunisians 21-6. In the second quarter, the Kenyan side seemed to have gotten their bearing winning by a convincing 16-2.

After trailing by a single point at halftime, Wings continued with their spirited fight as the third quarter ended 17-17 to maintain a point difference with SFAX.

However, they seemed to lose their fighting gut in the final quarter as the Tunisians won by a big margin of 24-8 to end their hope of making a good start at the campaign.

The ever impressive Samba Mjomba was the team's top scorer with 15 points while Meiya Tireira top scored for SFAX with 22 points.

The other match played in the group saw defending champions Interclube of Angola register a slim win of 52-51 over local girls Abidjan Basket Club.

Group A had two matches played on the opening day with Liga Desportiva of Mozambique blanking First Bank of Nigeria 87-42 while Club Sportif d'Abidjan of Cote d’Ivoire beat N’Della of Gabon 58-34.

Action continues on Saturday with four matches on schedule, two in each group. Kenya’s representatives Eagle Wings will play Interclube as they seek to put day one frustration aside and get their campaign back on track.
