Eto'o in Laikipia for Beyond unity Cup

Cameroon and Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o is in Laikipia for the biennial Laikipia and Beyond Unity Cup. Eto’o arrived in Nairobi early Tuesday and flew to Northern Kenya where he will be the guest of the Zeitz Foundation Founder and Puma CEO Jochen Zeitz, who is the organizer of the Laikipia cup.

“It is my second time in Kenya and I love it, its like home. I would love to settle in Mombasa one day,” said the former Barcelona and Inter Milan star at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport,JKIA on arrival from his Russia base where he was met by Football Kenya Federation Chairman, Sam Nyamweya.

Eto’o was however non-committal on his future. “I would like to stay in London yes but I cannot answe that question in this forum.”

While at Inter Milan Eto’o played alongside Kenyan midfielder MacDonald Mariga who returned to his former Italian club,Parma.

“We talk often with Mariga. We have kept touch and been friends since our time at the club.”

The Laikipia and Beyond Unity Cup seeks to utilise the unifying power of sport - football - as a means to bring together in a constructive spirit of peace and harmony, the diverse people within Laikipia and utilise this constructive engagement as a platform to build environmental awareness and deliver health care to the marginalised communities of Laikipia.

The 4 regions that make up Laikipia host 4 regional tournaments. Football teams are invited to take part on the basis of their contribution towards peace and environmental awareness within their region.

The finals and friendly match between Laikipia select and Mathare United will take place in Nanyuki on Wednesday May 23.

Eto’o is expected to feature for the ‘Laikipia United team’ comprising the best players from the 8 regional teams.
