Homeboyz Face Impala In Floodlit Opener

Mar 24, 2011

Hosts and Impala Floodlit defending champions Impala RFC have been drawn against newly promoted Homeboyz while Kenya Cup champions Kenya Harlequin FC square it out against Strathmore University.

Mwamba RFC face Nakuru RFC in a potentially tricky quarter final fixture while Kenya Commercial Bank wrap up quarter final action with a clash against Nondescript RUFC.

The draw of the Resolution Health Impala Floodlit Tournament was held this morning at Nairobi's Impala Club. The tournament runs for three weekends from April 2 - 16, 2011 with matches taking place at the Impala Club grounds.

Officiating today's draw was Impala Club's Paul Omondi who noted that seeding for this tournament was based on teams' performance in the just ended Kenya Cup league.
The 2011 Resolution Health Impala Floodlit  Tournament sees the introduction of a Universities category which replaces the Schools category that existed in previous editions.  Tournament Director Willy Ombisi said this change was necessitated by the fact that the tournament would take place during the April school holidays, making it challenging for schools to assemble competitive squads.

With six teams participating in this category, USIU and Kenyatta University's Blak Blad, the highest ranked teams based on their performances in the just ended KRU league competitions have received byes to the semi finals. Four other sides, Kenya Polytechnic, Multi Media University of Kenya, Strathmore University and Oryx will have to play other as they seek to secure semi final qualification.

In the meantime, Resolution Health East Africa Limited has announced that it will directly sponsor Impala Rugby Club for Sh3 million and invest an almost equivalent amount in marketing and merchandise of the club ahead of the next season.

Speaking at the Impala Club during the renewal of the company's partnership with one of Kenya's most rugby successful clubs, Eunie Khimulu Nyakundi, Resolution Health East Africa Limited's Marketing Manager said," We acknowledge Impala Rugby Club as a club with a rich heritage and a bright future ahead. As Resolution Health we want to be part of this future and hence our partnerships to enable the club meet its objectives for the 2011/2012 season."

Willy Ombisi, who represented Impala RFC at the function expressed the club's gratitude for the support received from Resolution Health in previous days saying, " We have no doubt that Resolution Health reaped the benefits of associating with a key rugby brand whose successes in the last decade need no introduction. For Impala Rugby, it feels right that once again, we will be carrying the name of such a dominant and respected Kenyan brand on the playing jersey of our proud team. We are once again set for an exciting and mutually beneficial year. We are a perfect fit.”
