Kenya Commercial Bank’s good run in the Kenyan Premier league has earned their coach Leonard Saleh a place in the national football team,Harambee stars .

Saleh was on Monday named as an assistant coach of Harambee Stars to replace Salim Ali who resigned last week to concentrate on his struggling club Mathare United.

According to Hussein Swaleh who is a member of the Harambee Stars Managament Board, Saleh was confirmed following the recommendation of head coach Zedekiah Otieno.

“We were given his name and the board deliberated on the same before we finally made a decision to appoint him,” said Saleh.

According to coach Otieno, he felt that the KCB tactician is the right candidate for the job due to his previous performance in the league.

“I am not just looking at what he has done with KCB this season. He has a good track record of outstanding results. He performed well while at Sher and now at KCB. For me he is the right man as we also share the same vision and philosophy having trained together,” he said.

“It would not have been fair for me to travel on my own to Angola after the resignation of Ali and that is why I requested for a replacement,” he revealed.

This is the first time that Saleh will be working with the national team Harambee Stars though he has previously handled national junior sides.

Three years ago he led the national under-20 team in the qualifiers for the Africa Youth Championships when the team played against Djibouti and Somalia.

Harambee Stars resume training on Tuesday at the Nyayo National Stadium after a two-day break. The team departs for Namibia on Friday for a scheduled friendly against the national side before proceeding to Luanda.
