Kenya A U17 team knocked out after second loss

Kenya A were knocked out of the ongoing Airtel Rising Star Under 17 tournament after they succumbed to their second loss in the event, a 1-0 loss to Ghana at St.Mary's school Nairobi.

Kenya A who lost 5-0 to Malawi on Monday means that the host will now be represented by only one team in Wednesday quarters in the boys category.

Malawi who drew 1-1 with Madagascar Tuesday were the first team to book a place in the quarters.

Kenya B however brought some hope in the faces of local fans after they salvaged a point in their 1-1 draw against Sierra Leone.

Michael Gavoji gave West Africans the lead in the 15th minute but Mohammed Kabba cancelled the goal in the 55 minute.

Kenya girls who started their campaign on a positive note on Monday where they thumbed 11 goals past helpless Malawi had a bad day on Tuesday going down 2-7 to Ghana.

Zambia(boys) also registered a massive 5-0 win over Burkina Faso. Shadrack Chimanya scored double for Zambia with his first goal coming barely a minute into the game.

Lanson Mbewe scored the second in the 18th minute while Kapota Kayawe’s strike in the 21st minute ensured that Zambia went to the break 3-0 up.

Spencer Sautu stretched the lead further when he netted in the 79th minute with Chimanya rounding off the scores for a disciplined Zambia with a late 80th minute goal.

Achta Abdolaye’s lone goal in the 29th minute ruined the party for Nigeria who lost to lowly ranked Chad in the girls group first match of the day.

Burkina Faso girls also suffered a humiliating 8-0 loss to Democratic Republic of Congo,DRC in a match where Congolese player Mwelwa Neneka Mamic scored five goals.

Mamic opened the score sheet for DRC in the 6th minute before doubling the lead five minutes later with a well taken long range short. Mamic ensured DRC went to the break with a 4-0 lead when she scored her third in the 24th before Mfambwa Balongo who also scored a brace added the fourth 10 minutes latter.

Siyona Florence extended DRC’s lead two minutes after the break when she scored in 47th minute while on form Mamic completed her goal scoring spree when she netted her fourth and fifth goals in the 53rd and 55th minutes with Balongo finding her second and DRC’s last goal of the game in the 58th minute.

DRC could have inflicted more damage to their opponent had they not missed a penalty and several clear-cut chances.

Uganda beat Sierra Leone 3-0 in another girls match. Collated result Girls - Nigeria 0 - 1 Chad; Ghana 7 - 2 Kenya; Uganda 2 - 0 Sierra Leone; Burkina Faso 0 - 8 DRC. Boys - Nigeria 1 - 1 Niger; Zambia 5 - 0 Burkina Faso; Kenya-1 0 - 0 Ghana Kenya-2 1-1 Sierra Leone; Tanzania 0-1 Gabon; DRC 4-0 Chad; Malawi 1-1 Madagascar.
