Kenya to host East and Central Africa handball challenge

Kenya will field five teams during this year's East and Central Africa handball club championship to be staged in Nairobi early November.

The games will take place at the Nyayo national handball court from November 4-10. Both Nairobi Water men and women will be defending the two titles that has attracted 16 teams from six countries.

After the championship, Water will then represent the country in the 34th African Handball championship to be staged in Morocco in December this year.

Other teams that will fly the country’s flag are National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) and the University sides, Strathmore University, Kenyatta University and Kenya Polytechnic University College. DRC send four teams Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Uganda will send four teams each while Zanzibar and Rwanda will have two and one respectively.Tanzania will also send teams.

Kenya Handball Federation fixture secretary, Charles Omondi said that all grounds have been marked adding that they are looking forward for a successful tournament as the federation seeks to popularize the game in the country.

“As a federation we will be using the tournament to popularize the game. One way through which we want to achieve that is by taking the game to the grassroot by ensuring its played in the estates,” said Omondi.

Fans will be allowed free access to the match venue according to Omondi.
