Kenya To Play Burundi, TZ In ACN Openers

Kenya’s national men and women basketball teams will begin their Africa Cup of Nations campaign on Monday against Burundi and host Tanzania respectively as Zone V qualifiers officially kick off in Dar es Salaam.

The Francis Ngunjiri charges will be the first to take to the court at 1pm local time before their female counterparts under the guidance of Ronnie Owino face off with the hosts at 3pm in the only match lined up for day one in the ladies category.

For the other matches in the men category, Rwanda will have an uphill task when they face Egypt in their opening match in what promises to be a cracker.

The match pitting East African sides Tanzania and Uganda will complete Monday’s schedule. According to the draw conducted on Sunday evening, Kenya has been pooled in a relatively easy group B that also includes Burundi and Somalia while group A has defending champions Rwanda, hosts Tanzania, Egypt as well as Uganda.

The ladies category will be played on a round-robin format with six teams from Tanzania, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, Egypt and Burundi taking part.

Men’s Draw: Group A- Rwanda, Tanzania, Egypt, Uganda Group B- Kenya, Somalia, Burundi Monday Schedule: Men- Kenya v Burundi (1pm), Tanzania v Uganda (4pm), Rwanda v Egypt (6pm) Women- Tanzania v Kenya (3pm).
