Kenya women's Beach Volleyball team fall to S.A in semis

Kenya's womens beach volleyball team narrowly missed out on the finals of the All Africa games losing 2-0 to favourites South Africa in a thrilling encounter at the Cost Do Sol Arena in Maputo on tuesday.

Kenya's veterans pairing of Margaret Indilara and Dorcas Ndasaba playing in their debut Games had upset Staira Chowgo and Guilhermina Cossa playing for hosts Mozambique- the continental Cup champions 2-1(22-20 21-23 16-14)in their quarter final match to book their ticket to the last four.

Kenya fought twice in ties breaks of 13-13 in the first set and 19-19 in the second set but South Africa's Palesa Sekhenyana and Randy Williams rebounded to win 2-0(23-21,18). Kenya who had earlier stunned Angola and Gabon 2-0 in their preliminary match will fight out for the bronze against either Angola or Nigeria.

The men's teams on the other hand of Patrick Owino/Evans Bera fine run in the competition which had seen them defeat Uganda 2-0 and Cape Verde 2-1 lost to Ghana 2-0(24-26 21-16) in the quarter finals. It was a loss that did not go down well with Patricia Scott the Chairlady of the Kenya Beach Volleyball Federation who decried the low standards of officiating.

"We did not lose fair and square there are some very questionable points which our opponents were awarded. The officiating in this games has left a lot to be desired."

Uganda women's netball won the gold medal with a match in hand after beating Tanzania52-42 on tuesday at the Academica gymnasium.

Kenya struggled to regain their winning ways against Botswana but they lost 47-41on monday evening before seeing off South Africa 51-47.

The men's handball team finished 10th out of the 12 teams competing at the Games after losing Gabon 29-21 in their ranking match. Maxwell Zange scored eight points for Kenya who were trailing 16-11 at the break.
