Kumar Selladore’s century went in vain as his side Singapore suffered a one-run loss at the hands of hosts Malaysia in the only match of the Pre-WCL Division 3 series played on Thursday.

The second match between hosts Kenya XI and Oman at Nairobi Jafferys was called off due to wet patches on the wicket.

Batting first, Viradeep Singh smashed 90 runs while Khizar Hayat hit a crucial 82 to build a 126-run partnership between them for the fifth wicket and help their side post a total of 306 for 7 in 50 overs.

The openers Arjun Murteja (62) and Kumar Sel (24) had given their side a decent start with a stand of 70 runs. Ahmad Faiz added 32 to get their side to 129 for 3.

Singh's knock off 94 balls included four boundaries and three sixes while Hayat hit five fours and two sixes.

In reply, openers Arjun Mutreja (62) and Salladore (123) started on a good note adding 116 runs for the first wicket.

After Murteja was trapped lbw by Shukri Rahim, Salladore got a hand from Anish Param (19) which got the scores to 171.

Chetan Suryawashi (12) was the third wicket to fall in Singapore’s chase with the board on 201. Selladore’s inning that included 11 fours and five sixes, came to an end with only 54 required when he was caught off Singh.

Navin Param (31) and Anantha Krishna (31) were run out in quick succession with the board on 304 to put the match even with a ball to play.

Dharmichand Mulewa who was tasked with scoring the two required was run out by Syed Aziz to hand Malaysia the win.
