Kimanzi weighs Sofapaka’s chances in return match

Jun 08, 2011

Sofapaka coach Francis Kimanzi believes his team has a 50 percent chance of qualifying into the group stages of the CAF Confederations Cup tournament.

Kimanzi however admitted that his team had a daunting task after falling 3-0 to Tuniasia’s Club Africain two weeks ago in Tunis.

“It’s a very tough prospect for us but I believe my players are capable of turning the table on our opponents”, he said after the team’s wednesday’s training session at the Nyayo National stadium.

Kimanzi is concerned by a quorum hitch that hit the club due the unavailability of four key players who were away in Angola with the national team.

Team captain James Situma, Edgar “Fighter” Ochieng, Osborne Monday and Titus Mulama all played a part during Harambee Stars 1-0 defeat to Angola on Sunday in a 2012 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

The team is also sweating over the fitness of goalkeeper Zachary Onyango who has a knock. The biggest blow, however, is the absence of influential midfielder Anthony Kimani who is out with serious ankle injury.

Sources at the club revealed that Kimani is likely to be out of action for atleast three weeks.

The Tunisian team is expected to arrive into the country on Friday and hold its first training session at Nyayo National Stadium on Saturday.

The match will be played on Sunday at the same venue at 4pm.
