Kirui wins 10000m as Administration Police begins team selection

Peter Kirui won the 10000m men’s title on Tuesday as the Administration Police kicked off their trials to select their team for the national championships at Nyayo national stadium.

 Kirui who hopes to make it to the Kenyan team for the All Africa Games in Mozambique comfortably beat his training mates Henry Chirchir and Bernard Kitur to lift the title in 28:29.2.

Kitur came second in 28:44.7 while Chirchir followed two seconds later in 28:46.7 to settle for third place.Kiprotich Yego clocked 29:07.0 to finish fourth.

After booking their slots in the AP team,the top three athletes who train at Chebir Bielek camp in Kericho nw plan to step up their preparations for next month’s national trials.

Jedida Wanjiru qualified for the 1500 women finals after topping her heat with the best time of 4:32.8 but will fight stiff opposition from Peninah Wanjiru who also topped heat two in 4:36.1.

 Jedida second in the AK track and field meeting in Mombasa is looking to make the national team to the World championships in Korea or the Pan African games in Maputo.

“This competition is very easy and after tomorrow’s final, my main aim will be to work on my speed and see if I can make it to the Kenyan team,” said Jedida.

James Kenai might have a field day in the 1,500 finals w after he easily saw of his opponents winning his heat in 3:41.0.His closest challenger Geoffrey Ruto clocked 3;42.0 while Bethwel Birgen touched the line in 3:42.6 to finish third.

Abednego Chesebe topped heat one in a time of 3:51.7 while Cyprian Kotut touched the line first in heat three after he clocked 3:46.6.

Linga Mutunga will lead the pack with Isaac Too pilling pressure in the battle for the 400m men’s Hurdles.Too crossed the line in 54.3 with Mutunga in second in 54.4.
