Kongoni's,Coast Pekee look to bounce back against Uganda

Sep 23, 2011

There will be nothing but 'revenge' on Kongonis and Coast Pekee’s mind when they take on visiting Ugandan side in the second round of the East Africa Cricket.

Both teams were humiliated by their hosts Rwenzori Warrior and Nile Knights last weekend in Uganda. Rakep Patel’s young resurgent Kongonis was drubbed in both the Cup and League ties to Warriors while Pekee’s could not come near registering their maiden victory when they played Knights at Entebbe.

At their home ground, Kongonis have proved to be a hard nut to crack and they will be full of hopes that the home advantage will play a big part in their quest to put their title hopes alive. Kongonis are expected to maintain the same squad that lost last weekend and will be relying on their young players to shine at home against the visitors led by former Kenyan coach Martin Suji.

Dominic Wesonga, Martin Okoth and Emmanuel Bundi have all played their cricket at Nairobi Club and have good knowledge of the conditions. However it’s a different story all together with the Mombasa based side.

They are yet to win a match out of the ten they have played and for them registering a win against Knights will be an upset of sorts. Lack of experienced players is what is hampered Coast’s chances of registering a win, Lucas Oluoch the team’s main bowler has failed to steer his team to success same to the majority of the Under19 players who make the bulk of the team.

Rift Valley Rhinos are geared up to give a tough challenge to hosts Nairobi Buffaloes at Nairobi Gymkhana in matches are expected to go either way.

The two shared the spoils in Nakuru last weekend and a repeat of the same is likely to be witnessed in both matches. Rhino’s coach Joseph Angara said his team is in good form despite the mishaps last weekend.

"The Rhinos are a good team, they have done pretty well; they just came-up with a bad game last Sunday. So, we know what they can do but ours is about us, doing what we know what we can do to the best of our abilities."
