KPA await Equity Bank in playoffs final

Equity Bank will travel to Mombasa to play Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) in games one and two of the women's Premier League playoffs final over the weekend.

The bankers made it to their maiden final after completing a 3-0 series whitewash of champions United States International University- Africa (USIU-A).

In game three, Equity led 40-35 at halftime to win 76-65. USIU-A won the first quarter 21-20 and Equity the second 20-14. The bankers claimed third quarter 20-14 with the fourth deadlocking 16-16.

Georgia Adhiambo (USIU-A) and Susan Akinyi (Equity) top scored with 19 points each. Cynthia Irankunda (USIU-A) and Hilda Indasi (Equity) added 16 points each with Mercy Wanyama finishing with 14 points for Equity.

In Division I, Zetech University completed a memorable unbeaten season winning the inaugural title. They sealed a 3-0 series triumph over Strathmore University after claiming game three 45-35.

Zetech led 23-15 at halftime after winning first quarter 15-6 and Strathmore the second 9-8. Strathmore won third quarter 15-14 and Zetech the fourth 8-5. Everlyne Atieno top scored for Zetech with 15 points while Jacklyne Tinega scored 10 for Strathmore.

The series is tied 2-2 in the men's Division I final after Zetech University won game four on Sunday 80-68 in overtime. Umoja had won game three 68-63 on Saturday after coming back from 33-37 at the breather.

The first quarter went to Umoja 17-13 but Zetech won the second 24-10. Umoja won the third and fourth quarters 19-14 and 16-12 respectively. Gilbert Obiero scored 17 points for Umoja and Kevin Sunguti added 16 with Jeremy Opiyo top scoring for Zetech with 13 points.
