Mwamba and Quins to meet in Kabeberi final again?

Sep 18, 2010
Mwamba RFC and Kenya Harlequin FC, the two top teams in the Western Union-sponsored Kenya Rugby Union National Sevens Circuit could meet in the final of the George Mwangi Kabeberi Sevens for the fourth time.

This would certainly determine the winner of this year’s circuit with one tournament left next weekend. The teams have met thrice in as many tournaments with Mwamba winning in Nakuru and Kisumu and Quins at the Christie Sevens.

The scenario unfolded at the end of the opening day of Kabeberi Sevens at the Rugby Football Union of East Africa ground. Mwamba who dropped five points against the United States International University - Africa on day one face Nondescripts in the cup quarter finals while Quins who conceded no point meet Mean Machine. A win by both teams would set an interesting semi-final clash.

Bottom seed Nondescript RUFC crashed the party, making the main cup quarter finals after finishing seventh. The Red Lions ran Strathmore close in their opening pool game, losing 15-19 before registering 10-5 and 47-0 wins over Homeboyz and Egerton respectively.

Last year’s champions Strathmore scraped through from this pool, securing a quarter final berth despite losing 17-21 to Homeboyz in their final pool match, a result that saw a three way tie between Strathmore, Homeboyz and Nondies.
