Champions Mwamba RFC begin their Enterprise Cup defence with a home tie against Resolution Impala Saracens when this year’s tourney enters the quarterfinal stage on Saturday.

Kulabu sat out last weekend's pre-quarter final action after receiving a bye alongside 2013 semifinalists Nakuru RFC, Nondescript RFC and KCB.

It will be a perfect opportunity for Mwamba to right the wrongs that saw them miss out on the Kenya Cup playoffs.

The Mwamba-Impala tie will be one of the two replicas from last season’s quarter final stage. Then, Collins Injera touched down six times to help Mwamba hit Impala 65-21 at the UoN ground on their way to lifting the title.

The fact that the venue remains the same this year gives the match more similarities. A win is what both teams will be looking for at any cost since its a knockout tourney.

Mwamba still misses the services of five key players who are with the national sevens team.

However, young and upcoming talented players like fullback Peter Kepher, winger Jeremy Chimwani and Brian Kivasya makes good for their absence.

Impala might count on their resurgent form towards the end of the Kenya Cup season to bring down the Meli Tuni side. T

hey won 24-5 away to Mombasa Sports Club last weekend in their pre-quarterfinal tie, a win they will bank on to boost their morale.

In their last meeting this season, Mwamba won 24-0 but that can't stop Impala from challenging for the silverware. George Okowa, Joel Omer, Sammy Oliech and Davis Makori will be some of the key players for the side.

KCB vs Quins

KCB will host Kenya Harlequin at Ruaraka in another top-of-the-bill quarterfinal tie that could go either way.

In their Kenya Cup meeting in December at the same venue, KCB won it late beating Quins 30-28 courtesy of a last minute Steve Matioli drop goal.

Both sides have bulk of their dependable players in the national sevens and fifteens teams but key replacements will be lined up.

On paper, KCB has the advantage by the virtue of playing at home and having experienced hands in Peter Mutai and Dennis Mwanja.

On their part, Quins has Sidney Ashioya and David Mogere to shore up their onslaught against the bankers.

Head coach Enos Otieno, who will be without eleven key players, might have to use some of the players who have consistently featured in the Eric Shirley Shield this season.

William Mawira, who touched down twice in their 44-20 win over Western Bulls last weekend, and eighthman Brian Okwomi who had a man-of-the-match performance are expected to play a key role against KCB.

Nakuru away to Homeboyz

Last year’s runner up Nakuru RFC play at home to Homeboyz RFC at the Nakuru Athletic Club. Wanyore still have a double in sight and a win on Saturday will do them big favour. Nondescript RFC and Strathmore University clash at the Jamhuri Park in the other replica tie from last season’s quarterfinals.

Nondies made it to the semifinals after beating the students 23-18. Nondies has a full squad to select from while Strathmore has Kenny Andola, Tony Onyango and Brian Nyikuli away with the fifteens team. Mwamba Cup Division 1 and 2 are equally set to get rolling this weekend.

Division 1 defending champions KCB II have the home advantage as they host Blak Blad II while last year’s losing finalist Impala II host Western Bulls II at the Impala Club.
