Nakuru and Mwamba race for playoffs

Nakuru RFC and Mwamba RFC maintained a neck-to-neck fight for the Kenya Cup playoffs spot after emerging winners in their fixtures played on Saturday.

On Saturday, Mwamba walked home with a bonus point after scoring four tries. The bonus point narrows the gap with Nakuru to one point. Nakuru remains sixth on the log with 38 points while Mwamba is on 37.

Mwamba fought hard beat Blak Blad 22-16 with reliable backrow Humphrey Kayange scoring two tries. Mike Owiti was also on a double for Mwamba as Lavin Asego kicked over one conversion.

Blak Blad replied through Humphrey Litali and Levy Amunga converted in addition to kicking three penalties.

Nakuru edged out Impala 21-17 in Nakuru. They led 14-3 at halftime.

Brian Maina gave Nakuru a 5-0 lead early into the match with a quick try. Impala’s Mohamed Omollo and Nakuru’s Geoffrey Ominde then traded penalties. Ominde added a drop goal and a penalty going to the breather.

Duncan Ekasi came off the bench to score a try for Impala and Robin Kiplangat added a conversion. A converted try by Edwins Makori saw Nakuru to safety before Derik Mayar touched down a late converted try for Impala.

Strathmore University made a huge leap towards relegation safety after narrowly beating Western Bulls 27-24. Adrian Opondo and Churchill Ooko were on the mark as Strathmore picked a vital bonus point.

At Jamhuri Showground, host Homeboyz RFC was ruthless in their 34-22 win over Kabras Sugar. Kelvin Kaboole and Felix Ayange scored for Kabras with Tony Onyango, Charles Omondi, Cyprian Kuto, Steve Otieno and Keith Wasike scoring for Homeboyz.

Kenya Harlequin FC beat Mean Machine 17-15 with the university side picking a vital bonus point while KCB beat Nondescripts RUFC 27-8. All the four bottom sides picked a bonus point from their matches.
