The National Sports Council chairman Nderitu Gikaria led his team back to office for another four-year term at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held Friday at Nyayo National Stadium.

Gikaria who is also the Kenya Handball Federation Secretary will again be deputized by Kenya Vanraj Survalya with Kenya Volleyball Federation Vice Chairman, Charles Nyaberi retaining his seat as Treasurer of the rather dormant council which normally comes alive during the All African Games season.

The body is normally tasked with coordinating the All Africa Games teams. Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) secretary general,David Ngugi and Shadrack Muluki also retained their posts as the Council’s committee members after Njeri Onyango and James Mweu withdrew from the race.

The council which is the link between various federations and the government has promised to do things differently this year and are planning to organize a festival that will bring together all the federations in a one week championship at the Nyayo National Stadium.

“Every federation will bring their best sports people of four teams to compete for a festival so that we’ll be able to see all sports competing at the same stage,” said Gikaria after his re-election.
