Kenyan International forward Audrey Omaido hat trick against Kenyatta University put champions Telkom seven points clear of second-placed Strathmore University.

This was their last match of the first leg and Alvin Wesonga reports Telkom started on a high as Maureen Okumu netted the opener in the first minute.

The students appeared overwhelmed by the Telkom Orange attack led by former Kenyan National team captain Betsy Ommala.

In the 18th minute Omaido netted the second goal after a well set pass from Lilian Aura. The students tried to hold the pressure from the always attacking Telkom Orange to no avail.

Kenyatta University shotstopper Celine Ouma was on many occasions exposed by her porous defence as veteran forward Jackline Mwangi scored the third goal in the 22nd minute.

At half time the students were already four goals down after Ommala scored in the 25th minute from a penalty corner.

Kenyatta University coach Simon Mwangi decided to change his tactics in the second half by introducing second choice goalkeeper Daisy Odera.

Six minutes into the second half, former Kenyan International forward Mwangi completed her brace after weaving past the students’ backline.

Ommala also scored her second one minute later as Telkom Orange stretched the lead to six.

Poor finishing

The students reluctantly attacked but were let down by poor finishing.

In the 40th minute forward Rayhab Nyuthe failed to get past Alice Wanjiku the Telkom goalkeeper who had not been active for the better part of the match.

The Telkom Orange midfield marshalled by Ommala on the hand were outstanding by effectively dealing with any build up by Kenyatta University.

In the mens’ Premier League Nakuru Athletic beat visiting side Kenyatta University 2-0 to climb to the ninth position with 14 points, 23 points behind league leaders Kenya Police who are unbeaten.

Kakamega-based Western Jaguars scored their third win by beating KCA-U 2-0. They remain at 14th position, six points ahead of bottom-placed Technical University of Kenya.
