Nakuru RFCs Oscar Ouma and KCBs Fabian Olando have been handed the task of captaining the two sevens teams that will represent Kenya at the Safaricom Safari Sevens this weekend.

Ouma will lead Shujaa with Sidney Ashioya of Kenya Harlequins deputizing in the team which is made up of key familiar faces.

Olando leads the much younger Morans side deputized by Dan Sikuta of Mwamba in a team that is largely constituted of new call-ups.

Both players have acknowledged the enormous task ahead but promised to marshal their troops to victory. Ouma said; “we will not be taking any team lightly because they are all strong and we are here to compete.”

On his part, Olando predicted an all-Kenyan final but warned that every team will have to work extra hard in achieving that. He added all players were well prepared after going through rigorous training.

“We are equipped well mentally and physically. I can assure you these players are ready for the battle.”

Mwamba’s Lavin Asego, Ashioya and KCBs Andrew Amonde are the experience faces in the Shujaa team that has also Mike Wanjala of Strathmore University, KCBs Philip Wamae, and Patrice Agunda of Kenya Harlequins. Other players in the side include Billy Odhiambo of Strathmore, Felix Ayange of Quins and Homeboyz’ Oscar Ayodi.

Homeboyz duo of Humphrey Mulama and Augustine Lugonzo, Strathmore’s Tony Owuor as well as KCBs Darwin Mukidza are lined up for international debuts playing under Morans side.

Davies Chenge of Western Bulls, Kevin Keegan of Quins and Mwamba trio of Collins Injera, Sikuta and Chris Asego form part of the lesser experienced side.

Other faces include Tony Onyango and Charles Omondi of Strathmore together with Leonard Mugaisi of Homeboyz. Six players have been dropped owing to injury concerns.

Adema among abstentee stars

Biko Adema of Nondescript, Horace Otieno of Mwamba, Impala’s Robert Aringo and Sammy Oliech, Quins’ Denis Muhanji and Joshua Chisanga of Homeboyz will all sit out of action this weekend.

The Kenya Sevens Academy team is equally rearing to go and will be captained by Michael Wanjala of Homeboyz.

Injuries to key players in the sevens team has forced head coach Paul Murunga to stick to a fully junior side after earlier hinting at going for some experienced players.

The team includes Herman Humwa of Kenya Harlequins, Brian Wandera of Daystar University, Strathmore’s Nelson Mandela and Felix Ojow from Mean Machine.
