Prisons, Pipeline resume training for KVF League

After a week break following the conclusion of the Africa championships the women’s clubs are back sweating it out ahead of the Kenya Volleyball Federation league set for Bungoma next weekend.

Kenya Prison’s Coach David Lung’aho whose side lifted the African title last week after beating Kenya Pipeline in the finals staged at the Moi Sports Centre, Kasarani assembled his side on Tuesday as he plans victory over Ulinzi and Blue Triangles in his quest to take back the trophy they lost to Pipeline last year.

The team went through their paces at the Nairobi West Prison ground had a good turn-up with all but captain Diana Khisa, Lydia Maiyo and Jane Wacu expected in the course of the week.

The continental champions earned a ticket to  the FIVB club World cup championship that that will take place in Doha, Qatar in October.

The Africa club runners-up Pipeline who missed the Doha ticket is foussing all his attention on the league with coach Japheth Munala keen on defend the title.

The national champions who won the title after seeing off Prison during the national playoff also kicked off their training on Monday at the Pipeline grounds as they prepare to take on Nairobi City Council (NCC) and National Talent Academy (NTA) in Western Province.

“Everything is now behind us and we want to concentrate on the league which we hope we will defend successfully,” said Munala who side has no any injury worries.

Meanwhile, Kenya will now take part in the FIVB Beach World Cup Qualifies in Italy after the beach volleybal national team of four players, finished second at the CAVB continental cup Olympics qualifiers in Rwanda last weekend.

The teams of Ulinzi player, Edna Rotich / Eunice Maiyo of Kenya Commercial Bank lost narrowly to Mauritius in the Cup finals which ended in a tie with Mauritius 2-2 forcing the play in to the golden set which they won 3-2,still has a chance to chase the elusive London ticket in Italy.

Kenya's other team of APR’s player Dorcas Ndasaba/ Margaret Indakala beat Mozambique two, 2-0 (21-18, 21-19) and lost to Mozambique one 0-2 (19-21,19-21)in the semi finals.
