PUMA, KPL finally sign 10m deal

German sportswear dealers; PUMA has signed a three and a half year deal with Tusker Kenya Premier League (KPL) worth Ksh. 10 million.

It is the culmination of lenthy negotiations dating back almost four years that will see the Premier clubs play with PUMA branded balls in all the training sessions and league matches. PUMA is a leading German multinational sports wear company. 

KPL Chief Executive Officer, Jack Oguda said that all the 16 teams in the TPL will, will from next week use the PUMA balls with the sponsors also benefiting from on-pitch branding during the league games.

Possible friendlies against Zambia, Cameroon and Angola

Speaking during the sponsorship presentation Wednesday, Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chairman Sam Nyamweya put on notice anyone who is using ‘fake’ balls in the country adding that they will face the law.

“We are going to write to the government to caution Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) to arrest anybody importing fake balls in the country through our customs. If you will be found playing with fake balls, its up to you,” warned Nyamweya.

Nyamweya said he is impressed by the growth of the domestic league and the national team, Harambee Stars who lost 2-1 to south Africa in a FIFA friendly match on Tuesday.

“The boys played very well yesterday (Tuesday) and we were satisfied by the team selection. I can assure you that we will retain the coach(Henri Michel),” he added.

More friendly matches for Stars Nyamweya added that Stars will play at least three build up matches before they play Nigeria in the 2013 world cup qualifiers in Match next year.

He revealed that continental champions Zambia, Cameroon and Angola have expressed interest to play the Stars.

“We have received so many interest from top teams in Africa and the team will have to play three-to-four matches,” confirmed Nyamweya.

Nyamweya also revealed that FKF will soon announce a deal between them and the Nairobi Sports House which will given the rights to distribute all the TPL merchandise in the country.
