Questions over Venue of Gor Final tie

Nov 07, 2010

Gor Mahia and Ulinzi wait for the final day matches that will decide who lifts the coveted KPL trophy next weekend as concerns were raised about the safety of Hope Centre venue that will host the mobby K'ogalo fans.

Gor, who lost eight fans to a stampede at Nyayo Stadium recently, are concerned with the low-end Hope Centre pitch in Kawangware more so if it can accommodate their bursting fans.

K’Ogalo who beat Sony Sugar 2-0 on Saturday to close the gap on league leaders Ulinzi will take on Nairobi City Stars at the Hope Centre.  Ulinzi must beat Karuturi Sports at Afraha to win their fourth KPL title.

If they had won Saturday’s match against Red Berets, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Ulinzi would have needed only a draw to lift the KPL crown.

But it all goes down to Sunday, November 14 to see whether the winners will be crowned in Nakuru or Nairobi.

Despite the hard fought draw Red Berets joined Mahakama in the Nationwide league after Chemilil Sugar survived relegation with a 3-1 win on Sunday over Nairobi City Stars.

After two successive draws third placed Tusker collected maximum points with a 4-2 win AFC Leopards in Mumias Sugar. Karuturi went down 1-0 to Western Stima while KCB played out to a barren draw with Thika United.
