Mar 13, 2011

Ngong Road sides, Kenya Harlequin FC and Impala will meet in the knock-out Enterprise Cup after both sides convincingly won their semi-final matches.

Impala beat Nondescripts RUFC 32-10 while Quins overran Strathmore University 41-22 at the Impala Club and Rugby Football Union of East Africa ground respectively.

Impala 32 Nondies 10 (ht 18-3)

An early exchange between the kicking boots of Charles Kanyi and Innnocet Simiyu set the tone for this semi-final played at Impala Club. Charles Kanyi ‘Akaranga’ gave the visitors and early lead before Simiyu levelled. A second successful Simiyu penalty saw the hosts inch ahead 6-3. Impala edged further ahead when winger Dan Weku scored the opening try. Full-back, Vincent Mose was next over and Simiyu stroked over the conversion for a 18-3 lead at the break.

On resumption, Benedict Nyambu, a Kenya seven-a-side player scored the opening try for Nondies. Kanyi converted to narrow the gap 18-10 in Impala’s favor. The intensity was upped and tempers flared which saw Weku, Moses Wanayga - who was playing against his former team Nondies - and Christian Josiah sent to the sin bin. Leslie Ochieng scored the third try for Impala and Simiyu was sure to stretch the lead 25-10. Mose completed his brace and Simiyu added the two points to set a date with Quins.

Quins 41 Strathmore 22 (ht 17-5)

At the RFUEA ground, Teddy Salano gave Strathmore an early lead, scoring an unconverted try but Wilson Kopondo evelled for Quins. Jared Owinyo broke the deadlock with a try which Victor Sudi converted for the lead to change hands 12-5 in favor of Quins. Former Kenya Sevens captain, Sidney Ashioya crossed over for Quins’ third try. They led 17-5 at half time.

Owinyo and Leslie Libasia's quick fire tries upon resumption, both converted by Sudi saw Quins lead 31-5 before an inspired Strathmore launched a mini come back. Felix Osiemo touched down with Ken Andola converting for a 31-12 score line. Seth Machuki soon scored another try, bringing the game to 31-17 before Edwin Salamba's try cut the deficit to 31-22. Two late tries from Allan Omuka and Ernest Ngong saw Quins run off 41-22 winners.
