Sofapaka kept the pressure on Kenyan Premier League leaders Gor Mahia after beating Chemelil Sugat 4-1 at the Narok Stadium on Sunday.

The win sees Batoto ba Mungu reinstate the six-point gap between them and K’Ogalo who have played one match less.

While Sofapaka were pushing the leaders, defending champions Tusker FC saw their slim title retention hopes blown away after a 2-0 loss away to SoNy Sugar at the Awendo Stadium.

Sofapaka’s huge win was helped with a numerical advantage after Chemelil Sugar were reduced to 10 when goalkeeper John Wawu saw red for handling the ball outside the box.

Ugandan forward Umaru Kasumba scored thrice, taking his season tally to nine. Ezekiel Okare added the fourth.

“We played really well today and the players were hungry. It was nice to win big and we hope we can have the same tempo in midweek. We will keep pushing to the end of the season and see what comes out of it,” John Baraza, the Sofapaka assistant coach told Sports News Arena.

Abege brace drowns Tusker

In Awendo, a first half brace by Ugandan forward George Abege secured a 2-0 win for SoNy Sugar over Tusker.

The win takes the sugar millers to 13th while Tusker drop down to seventh, a massive 14 points off leaders Gor Mahia.

In Kericho, AFC Leopards continued in their resurgence by beating Zoo Kericho 3-1. Ray Omondi grabbed his first goals for Ingwe, hitting a brace as youngster Vincent Oburu added the third.

Omondi opened his account in the fourth minute, squeezing in a shot past the Zoo keeper after connecting to a Marcelus Ingotsi corner.

He added his second midway through the first half, finishing off from close range after being fed by Oburu who had skipped past three of his markers.

In the second half, AFC Leopards continued with their pressure and Oburu turned scorer tapping the ball to the far post after being fed by Ingotsi.

Nicholas Kipkurui scored Zoo’s consolation in the 80th minute.

“This was a great performance from the team and the good thing is that we are scoring. We had been struggling to convert our chances and I am pleased that we have improved in that area,” Robert Matano, the AFC Leopards head coach offered.
