A fired up Ruth Odhiambo scored a hat trick as Strathmore University outclassed Multimedia University 6-0 in a Kenya Hockey Union women's Premier League derby on Saturday at the City Park Stadium.

The victors saw the return to action of Kenya international forward Gilly Okumu who missed over a month’s action with a nagging knee injury.

Also, coach Meshack Senge preferred Tasha Maria in goal to regular Truphy Onwa.

Strathmore University players threatened off the blocks with a quickfire goal barely a minute into the match through Odhiambo.

She was in sublime form and doubled their lead in the fifth minute after converting a penalty corner delivered by Elizabeth Ngombo.

Judy Adhiambo sounded the board in the 11th minute to create further separation heading into the break.

Further goals by Odhiambo (42nd minute) and Adhiambo (45th minute) respectively piled more misery on MMU.

Substitute Virginia Wanyee completed the rout with five minutes left on the clock.

Strathmore University leapfrogged Chase Amira to be placed third on the log with 19 points.

It was their sixth win in eight matches played this season. MMU on the other hand suffered their fourth straight heavy loss to remain second from bottom on four points.

Impala move to third

In the men's National League ‘A’, Impala moved to third on the log after easing past Daystar University after a solid 3-0 win.

Jipcho Rotich opened the scoring in the 13th minute as teammate Kevin Rono added a second in the 22nd minute.

The dominant Impala had Eddie Odhiambo put the match to bed in the 56th minute when he converted a penalty corner.

In the men's Premier League, Philip Omunyala scored a brace as Park Road Badgers beat Kenya College of Accountancy-University 3-0 to move up by two places to fifth.

Omunyala got the victors ahead in the 34th minute while his strike also finished off matters with virtually the final touch of the ball.

Andrew Kamau notched the other goal for Park Road with 15 minutes to play.

In the university derby, Dedan Kimathi University and Kabarak University shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.

Captain Reinhard Karani put Kabarak University ahead in with a 15th minute field goal. Substitute Benard Korir ensured that Dedan Kimathi University pulled level with a 27th minute strike.

Neither side could find the match winner that proved elusive.
