Team of 5 for Africa Combined championships

Priscilla Nasimiyu leads five others runners the Africa Combined athletics Championships in Mauritius next week.

Nasimiyu will compete in the heptathlon while Julius Rotich has been entered in 400m hurdles.

David Mutinda will run in the 800m with Elijah Chesoem from the Kenya Defence Forces featuring in decathlon alongside Anderson Muiruri.

Athletics Kenya,AK public relations officer Peter Angwenyi said the federation was giving the athletes exposure ahead of the Africa Senior championships and the London 2012 Olympics.

“We want our runners to gauge themselves against other African countries with a view of qualifying for London Olympics later in the year,” he added.

Ten countries are expected to compete in the five-day event including Nigeria, South Africa, Botswana, Algeria, Egypt and Uganda, France, Cameroon, Benin, Madagascar and the hosts Mauritius.

Coach Joseph Musonik said he expects Kenyan athletes to be competitive during the event. The team departs on April 9 and returns on April 16.
