Ulinzi stretch their unbeaten run to 10

Ulinzi Warriors have stretched their season’s unbeaten run to 10 games in the Kenya Basketball Federation men’s Premier League.

They won twice over the weekend including a 72-58 win over Equity Bank on Sunday.

Eric Mutoro led scoring for the soldiers with a game high 32 points. Ulinzi won the first three quarters 13-3, 17-14 and 19-10 with Equity winning the fourth 25-23.

Ian Wachiye top scored for Equity with 18 points and Kevin Chogo added 17.

This was the third straight loss for Equity and who have more losses than wins as the first leg nears completion.

Co-operative Bank remains second on the log with a single loss and beat Trailblazers on Saturday.

In the women’s Premier League, Zetech University upset Eagle Wings 34-23 in a low-scoring game.

After taking a 27-13 halftime lead, Zetech only managed to score seven points in the second half; five in the third quarter and two in the fourth.

The students won first quarter 14-4 and the second 13-9. Eagles won the third quarter 6-5 and the fourth 4-2 with Winnie Wafula scoring six points to lead their scoring.

Rebecca Nkatha top-scored for Zetech with a game high 21 points.

In another game, Taudencia Peter marked her return to Co-op Bank scoring 11 points as the bankers beat Kenyatta University Oryx 54-31.

Dominant bankers

Co-op Bank led 28-11 at halftime after winning the first quarter 20-2 and Oryx the second 9-8. The bankers were dominant in the second half with a 13-12 win in the third quarter and 13-8 in the fourth.

Berine Okoth scored 10 points for Oryx who have registered one win so far.

Strathmore University and Daystar University were on the winning roster in the women’s Division I.

Strathmore won by half a basket after beating Africa Nazarene University (ANU) 31-30. Strathmore led 17-15 at halftime and won the second quarter 11-8 and the third 9-8 while ANU won first quarter 7-6 and the fourth 10-5.

Christine Tina scored six points for Strathmore with Anne Akinyi scoring 10 for ANU. Daystar won 52-42 against Gladiators and trailed 21-26 at halftime.

Gladiators gained the halftime advantage after strongly winning the second quarter 19-6 after Daystar had won the first quarter 15-7.

In the third quarter, Daystar won 14-8 and completed their comeback in the fourth quarter winning 17-8.

Steff Ngabire scored 14 points for Daystar with June Loise adding 13. Atsabina Sichiri top scored for Gladiators with 12 points and Emily Ongoro added 11.
