Unbeaten Police and Butali showdown

Kenya Police and Butali Sugar Warriors, the two unbeaten sides in the Kenya Hockey Union men’s Premier League face off on Saturday from 6 p.m. at the City Park Stadium in the top match of the weekend.

The policemen head the 15-team table with 34 points from 12 matches two more than the third-placed Butali Sugar Warriors who are third on 26 points.

This match will feature two team which have contrasting styles with the focus on a quick counter attack from the side that settles first.

Some of the key players for Kenya Police are Calvins Kanu and Oliver Echenje who coach Patrick Mugambi could rely on for goals.

Godfrey Wakachunga, the Butali Sugar Warriors’ coach also has a solid side with experienced players capable of controlling the tempo.

It will be interesting to see who he places his faith on in the starting line up. Seth Oburu has been in good form for the millers.

In the only match outside Nairobi, Western Jaguars host Nakuru in Kakamega.

On Sunday, fifth-placed Sikh Union, Nairobi have a tricky assignment against Chase Sailors from 3 p.m. while a resurgent Strathmore University play an unpredictable Park Road who are sixth on the table.

There is only one match in the women’s Premier League where the University of Nairobi tackle Kenyatta University on Sunday from 9 a.m.


Saturday: Wazalendo Youth v JKUAT (12 p.m.), KCA-U v USIU-A (2 p.m) - National League; Western Jaguars v Nakuru (3 p.m. in Kakamega), Chase Sailors v Wazalendo (4 p.m.), Butali Sugar Warriors v Kenya Police (6 p.m.) - Premier League.

Sunday: UoN v Kenyatta University (9 a.m.) - women’s Premier League; Thika Rovers v Wazalendo Masters (11 a.m) - National League; KCA-U v Parklands Sports Club (1 p.m.), Sikh Union, Nairobi v Chase Sailors (3 p.m.), Strathmore University v Park Road (5 p.m) - Premier League.

Wednesday: Strathmore University v TUK (6 p.m).
