Winning start for champions KCB, against Strathmore University

Defending Kenya Cup Champions KCB started off their 2017/2018 campaign with a 27-0 win over ‘hosts’ Strathmore University.

Thirty minutes into the match, KCB drew first blood as winger Collins Wanjala went over the whitewash giving KCB a five-point lead. Flyhalf Elphas missed the conversion.

A Strathmore University infringement in their 22 saw KCB boot in three points off the resultant penalty for a 8-0 score at halftime.

In the second half, Wanjala completed his brace after which reserve winger Arthur Owira landed two centre post tries in a span of seven minutes with Ken Moseti converting both for the result.

Next week. the bankers will hit the road to Kisii and Strathmore to Kakamega.

Debutants Mombasa were beaten 48-0 by Impala who scored seven tries four of which were converted.

Edgar Obino scored the first try and Xavier Kipng'etich converted for a 7-0 lead.

Kipng'etich stretched the lead

Timothy Makiya and Mike Gitau added one try each. Kipng'etich slotted one conversion to stretch the lead to 19-0 at halftime.

On resumption, George Okowa and Makiya crossed the chalk for a 29-0 lead. Mark Kwemoi converted Sammy Motari's try to extend the lead 36-0.

Kwemoi then converted Anthony Nyandigisi's try before crossing the line to complete the rout.

Blak Blad started their Kenya Cup assignments with a 8-0 win over Nondescripts RUFC at the University of Nairobi.

Levy Amunga kicked over a penalty and Archadius Kwesa scored an unconverted try.

In Kakamega Kabras overcame a slow start to edge out visiting Mwamba 29-22 while Nakuru RFC overran visiting Kisii RFC 45-15.

Mean Machine and Western Bulls who were relegated from the Kenya Cup last season won their opening Championship matches. 

Western Bulls beat Kisumu RFC 22-11 while the students saw off catholic University 32-0 away.
