Commonwealth Games champion Jason Dunford managed silver in the 50m Butterfly on Saturday in Doha, which is hosting the second leg of the FINA World Cup series.

After managing gold in the opening round in Dubal last weekend, Dunford’s post Olympic plunge got off to a rather slow start at the 25m Hamad Aquatic Centre pool in Qatar.

His usual sway underwater that always gives him the head start was not as snappy as South African Roland Schoeman led as soon as he got his head off the water.

The veteran South African swimmer who had posted the fastest qualifying time in the heats of 23.10 seconds comfortably won in 22.34 with Dunford tapping the wall second for the silver in 22.87. Olympics champion Chad Le Clos of South Africa took the bronze in 22.90.

Dunford had returned 23.26 the third fastest time in the heats earlier in the day. He will be looking for a better performance when he returns to the pool on Sunday in the 100m fly after struggling in last week's final in Dubai.
