Former Gor Mahia talismanic striker George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo has parted ways with his Danish football club Randers FC on a mutual agreement.

A statement on the club website said failure to work his way up the club’s hierarchy and a strong desire to return to Kenya, led Odhiambo and Randers to jointly agree to terminate the contract.

Odhiambo penned a five-year deal with the Danish club in January 2011 following a great season during which he guided Gor Mahia to a second-place finish. The 2010 Kenyan Player of the year with 16 international caps, scored 18 goals for Gor in 46 appearances.

But Odhiambo found it had to settle at the club in his first season and openly voiced his frustration for lack of sufficient playing time.

While confirming the news Odhiambo’s agent Ed Stoner twitted: “Blackberry’s termination has been the product of months of negotiation between Randers FC and myself.

He has not been left in the cold by Randers and I stand by the fact that training conditions at Randers have developed George as a player, an athlete and as a man.”

In the wake of the new development, word began doing the rounds on the rumour mill that Blackberry could soon be back at Gor Mahia.

But Stoner said that he is currently assessing offers from clubs in Africa and Asia since despite discussions there have been no formal offers from KPL.

“I must add that George returning to the KPL has not been ruled out, providing we consider it beneficial to his career”, he said.

Odhiambo is registered with two first team appearances for Randers. He made his debut for the club on May 18th 2011 away against FC Nordsjaelland in a Superliga match. Odhiambo also played for the club in a national cup match against Langeskov in August 2011.
