Ladies defending champions Eagle Wings have a chance to assume leadership of the women premier in the national classic league if they win their matches against Kenyatta University Oryx and Strathmore University this weekend.

They play Oryx on Saturday and Strathmore on Sunday. The Thomas Olumbo side is still unbeaten after playing three matches and will take over the league leadership from Co-operative Bank if they win both matches.

Wings are currently fifth on the log with six points and only two points separate them with the leaders.

Their mathematics are made even easier by the fact that the top four teams will not be in action apart from Safe Spaces who have only one match away to Western Delight. Sprite Storms and Kenya Ports Authority, KPA, are the other teams making the top four.

Spaces have eight points and even if they win their match and Wings emerge victorious, they will be joint top with ten points each but the champions will have two matches at hand.

Delight, who are last on the standings having played and lost only one match, might prove to be a hard nut to crack for Spaces considering they will be playing at home.

This will definitely play to the hands of Wings who will be playing an Oryx side that is still smarting from the anxiety of promotion to the league. They are eleventh on the log having played two matches winning one and losing one.

Consistency up against inconsistency

Strathmore will be the real test for Wings but their inconsistency this season might as well work to the advantage of their opponents.

They are seventh on the log and have so far played four matches. With only a single win, they will have to work extra hard if they hope to tame the ever consistent Wings.

Their worst performance was last weekend when they surrendered their lead in the entire match to narrowly lose 60-59 to USIU-A.

On Saturday, Strathmore will play another inconsistent side Kenya College of Accountancy- University, KCA-U. USIU-A, who are also unbeaten from two matches, will play winless Mennonites on Sunday.

Mennonites has so far played five matches losing all. In the men premier, it will be redemption time for defending champions Co-operative Bank when they play Strathmore University on Saturday.

The match comes only a week after the bankers lost 82-80 to another varsity side USIU-A. On cards, Strathmore will go to the match as the better side with six points from four matches while Co-op Bank has four points from five matches played.

The bankers will be keen not to lose their fourth match this early into the season and a win over the students will be their main target.

For Strathmore, a win will help them close the gap to just a point of leaders Thunder who have ten points from five matches and will be out of action this weekend.

Fifth placed Nakuru Club will welcome Mennonites, who are ninth, in the other match slated for action on Saturday.

Tail holders USIU-A will be looking to nail down their second win when they play Blazers on Sunday.

This will be their third match of the season. Umoja Sets Sight on Div 1 Leadership In division one, Umoja will be angling to go clear at the top when they play Equity Bank on Sunday.

They are joint top with Strathmore University and KCA-U with ten points even though unbeaten Strathmore have played one match less. With the other two leaders out of action, Umoja will be keen to take full advantage of that with a win over the bankers.

Equity also has a chance of topping the league if they beat Umoja since they have nine points and a win will take them one point ahead of the current leaders.

The other matches will see Kenya Airports Authority, KAA, and KU Pirates clash on Saturday the same day as the World Hope versus Parklands Baptist encounter.

On Sunday, Pirates will return to the court against Upper Hill who played their first match of the season last weekend losing 58-52 against KCA-U. KAA will also play their second match of the weekend against Zetech College.
