Inter university games kicks off December 16 at Ruaraka

Over 2400 University students will parade at the Ruaraka sports grounds from December 16- 21 for the third edition of the Kenya Universities Sports Association,KUSA.

The event which will be run under the theme, “greater heights through sports” aims is to solidify relationships beby and basketball men respectively.

“We will have all the disciplines itween Kenyan Universities and will bring players from all the public, private universities and even the constituent colleges.

Last's year overall team winner, Kenyatta University will be defending their team title while Strathmore University, Jomo Kenyatta University of science and Technology-JKUAT and University of Nairobi will be defending men’s soccer, rugn this year’s competition but only students will participate in the championship and we will make sure that this is done,’ said KUSA secretary general, Isaac Mwangi.

Barclay's sports club, Kenya Commercial sports club and Utalii college grounds will also host some games. Hockey men’s champions, Strathmore University will not defend their title as the team will be in Zambia at that time for the Africa club championship.

The 24 participating teams will be drawn from Strathmore University, Kenyatta University, Moi University, Africa Nazarene University, Catholic University, Chepkoilel University College, Daystar University, and Egerton University JKUAT, Kabarak University, Kenya College of Accountancy University, Kenya Methodist University, Kenya Polytechnic University College, and Multimedia University College of Kenya. Others are Kimathi University College, Kisii University College, Laikipia University College, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology, Mt. Kenya University, Presbyterian University of East Africa, South Africa University College, St. Paul University, Strathmore University and United States International University-USIU.

The teams will compete in various disciplines -Football, Rugby, Athletics(all events apart from the hurdles), Basketball, Chess, Handball, Hockey, Karate, Netball, Scrabble, Soft Ball, Swimming, Tennis, Taekwondo and volleyball.

The last edition of the biannual event was held in 2009 at the University of Nairobi grounds.
