Jaffna Challengers Face NC Typhoons in Carlton Sevens Quarters

Jaffna Challengers, a select team which has Kenyan players qualified for the quarter final of the second and penultimate round of the Carlton Sevens after winning and losing two matches.

Sunday they face North Central Typhoons. They won the first leg tournament last weekend.

Players who spoke with sportsnewsarena.com from Colombo, Sri Lanka said the second leg was much difficult.

“The teams saw each other in the first leg so prepared much better,” the players acknowledged. But for Jaffna Challengers who are being coached by Michael Friday,

the aim was to reach the quarters by winning two matches before they foreign players gave the locals a feel of the competition. Eastern Eagles where Andrew Amonde, the Kenya Sevens captain plays also qualified from Pool B for the quarter finals.

They beat Sabaragamuwa Stallions 24-19, North Central Typhoons 19-17 and lost 0-54 to Western Blacks.
