KCB back on top of the table

Clifford Alwanga struck a 38th minute goal to give KCB a 1-0 win over Karuturi Sports on Sunday evening at the City Stadium to ensure the bankers maintain their flawless start to the new Tusker Premier League season.

On Saturday, Chemelil Sugar provisionally went top of the log with a 2-1 win over Nairobi City Stars at Hope Centre, but the bankers have now reclaimed top with 11 points.

Chemelil are second with 9 points from five matches. KCB have made the City Stadium their forte winning all three matches they have played there so far. Juma Abdallah’s men have scored eleven goals at City Stadium and are yet to concede any goal.

Karuturi Sports, on other hand fell to their second successive defeat but the Naivasha flower men remain non-movers at ninth position with 4 points.

But Abdallah had words of praise for Karuturi who he said gave a spirited resistance. “This was the toughest match we have played this season and I am glad we have picked all three points,” he said.

The other bigger winners of the weekend were Thika United who hit Muhoroni Youth 2-0 in Muhoroni courtesy of two first half goals from Cliffton Miheso and Ezekiel Odera.

The result hoisted Thika to joint second with Chemelil on 9 points. Muhoroni now drop three places to fifth with 7 points following their second loss of the season.

In Saturday’s other match, Bandari whipped Sony Sugar 3-0 at Mbaraki Sports Club in Mombasa to pile pressure on coach Sammy Omollo.

The win less sugar millers are two places from bottom with just 3 points from five matches. A brace from Alloyce Mangi and another goal from Thomas Morris assured the dockers of buoyancy with all three points that lifted them to fourth with 8 points.

Bandari, who are making a return to the top flight league after one year’s absence, have now racked up two straight wins.

With Harambee Stars in action against Nigeria in a 2014 World Cup qualifier, only four matches were on the card but actions resumes on Wednesday with two matches at City Stadium.

Sofapaka will tackle Mathare United while Gor Mahia will host Ulinzi Stars in only their second match of the season.
