Kenya through to main cup quarters

For the second match, Kenya scrapped a 10-7 win over Spain to enhance their chances of reaching the main cup quarter final of the Dubai Sevens which is the second tournament of the International Rugby Board Sevens World Series.

This was a match in which Kenya got sucked into the physical game of Spain who denied the East Africans any running space. In the first half, William Ambaka who missed two scoring chanced made a dashing run but lost possession.

Oscar Ouma also sped for the line but was tackled short before Collins Injera broke the deadlock by barging over despite a desperate tackle from Pablo Feijoo.

In the second half, Ignacio Martin scored from a quickly taken penalty inside Kenya’s 22.

The try was converted as Spain led 7-5. Kenya came back forcefully and Horace Otieno brushed a few tackles before conceding a penalty in Spain’s half.

The winning try was initiated by Sidney Ashioya who combined well with Andrew Amonde to score the winner. Ambaka was tackled short of the line with 30 seconds to go.

With one match left against Fiji, Kenya is likely to face either Canada, Australia or France in the main cup quarter final. In their opening match, Injera scored twice as Kenya rallies from 0-5 down to beat Scotland 12-5.
