Wanyama wins Celtic Young Player of the year award

Kenyan International midfielder, Victor Mugube Wanyama was crowned the 2012/13 Celtic Young Player of the Year after helping his club win their second consecutive Scottish Premier League SPL.

Wanyama, 21 is the younger brother to MacDonal Mariga and Is the first East African player to have scored in theUEFA champions league.

The youngster who joined Celtic in 2011 is still in the runnning for the Scottish Premier League Young Player of the Year.

Last year he was shortlisted as one of the three most promising players on the African by the continental football governing body, Confederation of African Football (CAF) and was the second runners up for Kenya’s Sports Personality of the year Awards, SOYA.

Wanyama a former AFC Leopards and Nairobi City Stars player still has two more years to see off his Celtic contract and looks likely to stay with the Scottish champions amid a flurry of interest from English Premier League clubs- Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United and Manchester City and Arsenal last season.

 Football Kenya Federation FKF has congratulated Wanyama for clinching the Celtic’s Young Player of the Year award on sunday night.

“This achievement has placed Kenyan football on the global football map. Wanyama is a focused and disciplined player and young man who is always ready to learn and the Federation has always offered him and other players the necessary support,” said FKF Chairman Sam Nyamweya.
